1945 W4 Serial No. 13394

Can anybody tell me if my 1945 W4 (Serial No l3394) is a McCormick Deering or a McCormick

Also, does anyone have ideas how to stop Gasoline leaking out of the fuel cap (breather hole) on the large fuel tank.I do not want to damage the paint

Many Thanks
Ron

I believe the Deering name was dropped in 1947 or 1950.

You need to replace the fuel cap to stop the leaking. Get one of the tall "triple baffle" caps. They're much safer because the air has to go around three baffles in the cap. The baffles stop the fuel from sloshing out.

If you insist on using the "original" cap you will always get some fuel leakage, because the cap is vented straight into the tank. Fuel will slosh up through the hole unless the tank is nearly empty. That's why IH was giving the triple baffle caps away for the longest time.

It should be McCormick Deering without an IH logo as shown in the picture I"m trying to upload. You can probably get a new triple baffle gas cap for free from www.ihgascap.com that is unless your tractor"s serial number has been used to get a free gas cap already.

I understand that the McCormick Deering name was dropped and replaced with McCormick in mid 1949 so it should be McCormick Deering.

MAybe Im thinking of the front emblem, but I still think I read on here sometime back, the side decals on the Ws was McCormick, the Os McC - Deer, the Industirals was International. But some pics back up what everyone else says about the hood decals.
