hi, i have recently aquired 2 farmall f20 tractors, neither having tags. is there any way to come up with numbers or years being as the tags are gone? One is electric start, the starter and flywheel are at the front of the engine and appears factory... is this rare? also, where is the most reasonable site/place to purchase a head gasket set? thank you so much for any help in advance.

Serial numbers are stamped into the left hand frame rail, on top, towards the rear. The same number is cast into the engine block, not too far from where you find it on the frame rail. If the engine is original to the tractor, both of those numbers will match.

F-20s never had electric startIt is Hiesler,or other aftermarket.they would use a 1940s Chevy starter.Alderson Salvage,Sigurney IA,is the place for F series parts(new and used).

I've got a 39' with a starter and it has IH stamped right on the bellhousing, and the starter itself is the same as an H or M starter.

(quoted from post at 13:55:38 01/04/11) I've got a 39' with a starter and it has IH stamped right on the bellhousing, and the starter itself is the same as an H or M starter.

I would like to see a picture of that.
It is stated in multiple sources that IH NEVER offered electric start for the 20, but they were approved for dealer install
