Hi ,

What would be the top speed of a McCormick W-4?
I would like to get one for tractor rides.

Does it run?Take it out on the road,and find out.have some one follow with a
"speedometer".

Your top speed is listed at 14.8mph. That's assuming original size tires.

1st gear- 2.4mph
2nd gear- 3.3 mph
3rd gear- 4.0 mph
4th gear- 5.1 mph
5th gear- 14.8 mph

Yeah, around the 15 MPH mark....the worst part is the huge gap between 4th and 5th.

I've spend many an hour doing haulage with a W-4...thankfully it was retired from that work....

Drive it at full speed through a school zone and see if the cop stops you lol. Or better yet go as fast as you can down the road and count how many times you get honked at and flipped off. I need an abacus every time I make a trip to the other end of the village. LarryT

Tractor rides can be a PITA. I recently this past fall went on a 15 mile ride with my A. 4th was too fast, and 3rd was too slow. There was an older green thing in front of me, and his "road gear" was in between my 3rd and 4th. Had to keep shifting the whole trip. Still had a good time though..................

The best tractor I have ever driven on rides is my old M with a 9 speed. I can match speeds with any color and not have to shift gears.

I hear there is always some guy with an F-XX or some other really old tractor that likes to set the pace at a fast walk...or his road gear. I would still like to try it someday. My something with a TA. I would guess that would do about the same as a 9 speed.
