Generator posts

Cub 6v genny. I don't weem to be able to find a nut to thread down these posts. 1/4" from all appearances but the nuts I have tighten and then just pop loose. Fine thread? Been thru a lot of jars of hardware and can't seem to get it. #10 is too small.

Dave- I believe those generator studs are threaded for #10-24 (coarse thread). Your standard #10 nut from your hardware jar or hardware store bin will be a #10-32 fine thread and won't thread onto the stud as you've discovered.

You should be able to find #10-24 nuts at your local starter/generator shop - one that works on old stuff that is. (All modern electrical hardware is %@$!* metric....)

Well that will work. I have a guy next town over that repairs all my starters and gennys. I'll run over there and get a couple from him. Heaven knows he owes me. Odds are he will get his hands on this one soon enough. Seems like every tractor I get has a bad starter or genny.

Thank you!

I am not commenting on the size necessary for your application, but a 10-24 should be available at any hardware store. It is as common (or more so) than a 10-32.

Take the genny along to be sure you get the rite size as over the yrs who would know what has been changed some repair shops used different sizes over the years and many gens you will find the size has been changed.
