Hello fellows, I dont post very often but I read the forum often. Anyway I've got 2 nice International 400D's and 300U and a non working W6 s/n WBK40244 W1.
The W6 is loose but hasnt run for 2 years, the tires are shot and probably needs a valve job. Everything else on the tractor is in good shape. Thing is I dont know what to do with it, fix it up or sell it. Is this a popular model with IH folks? Is it worth rebuilding? I've got the 400's and am satisfied with them. Any comments as to what you'd do with it? I need some ideas. Thanks

A new pair of rear tires will be the absolute most expensive part of fixing it up, $350 to $400 each, so if you don't want to spend that kind of money, just sell it. The W4s, W6s, and to a lesser extent, the W9s, are quite popular.

I think the tire prices were a little low, but close enough.

The model is desirable. At least it is to me. If I were you I would sell it to my by the ton and wash your hands of it :) Truthfully, you will NEVER make money fixing it up or restoring it and selling it. If you are going to do it you better be able to do 100% of the stuff yourself and find great deals and you might break even. If you plan on keeping it and it is the kind of thing you kids or grandkids would want then keep it around. You will make the most money selling it now if it runs and drives than you ever will later.

Tires are going up up up all the time. Claiming the rising price of oil is the reason, but when oil came down tire prices didn't... Now oil's going back up and tire prices are going even higher.

Get it running, regardless of what you decide. Running will make it worth more to sell. Running might make you decide to keep it.

Kept indoors, if the tires hold air they will last forever. It'll give you plenty of time to hunt down a pair of used ones, or save for new ones. Paint it up with the crusty old tires on it.

Amazingly the tires still hold air, but they are real bad. I had my fun with it for about ten years. I used to hand crank start it, also has a magneto so no battery. My kids are not interested in it. Kinda like a dog I can't keep and needs a new home. I might just put tires on it to sell it faster if I can get the tires for a fair price. I'll try and post a pic.

It will never work...I would rather get it at a "bargain" and buy my own tires. Also, tires will only detract about 50% of their value from the value of the tractor. $1500 tractor with good rubber is worth $1000 with bad rubber.
