Just checking to make sure I am remembering right. The heads from all 3 size engine will work on all 3 right??? Also the cams, rod, pistons and main and rod bearings are the same but the crank shaft is different in all 3 right?? Building a 292 but only have heads off of the 250s on hand and just want to make sure it will work so I do not get it on and then find it will not come close.
Thanks

I do not recall if the 250 & 292 are the same but the 235 you mentioned is way different.

the old 235 is an older engine from the fifties. its 230, 250 and then 292. the 230 and 250 look the same. the 292 has wider lifter covers on the side and thats the easy way to tell the diff.... has a taller block. the heads look the same on all 3 but i think the 292 has bigger valves, just not sure now. i know it has a bigger carb bore. i think the 250 and 292 have same pistons, but i was under the impression the 292 had longer rods.

I think the 250 and 292 would be different. I have a 261 and that is different than a 250. I know the 261 takes different gaskets. BTDT

I forgot to mention my 68 chev 6 cyl took a different head than my 81 chev 6. The 81 had the intake manifold and the head in one piece. They may have taken the same head gasket though

the diff between the 250 and 292 is the 292 has a longer stroke and taller block but basically the same engine. the 261 and 235 is what these replaced, they are older.

Old,I know this is a off topic but I just drove my 49 chevy pu for the first time yesterday, its got a 235 truck motor in it that has solid lifters. It sure sounds nosie but I beleive they need adjusted a little. The motor ran good, drove good, brakes were good, but man she is slow.Seemed like 45 is tops, and the motor was screaming

You must be the last guy in the country with 250 heads. The late 250s with the cast in manifolds were prone to cracks. Around here all the older 6 cylinder heads got used up replacing the newer ones. The intergral manifolds were a dumb idea anyway.

Don't think a Cam will interchange...A 292 fuel pump is in a different place than a 250 right?check here

I never tried it, but the heads from the 235 and the 250 almost certainly will not interchange. Very different engines. The 216 was introduced in 1937, minor changes over the years and upgraded to the 235 in 1953, same basic engine. More changes in 1954, same basic engine. 1962 was the last year for the 235. The 230/250 introduced in 1963, all new design. 7 main bearings, the 216/235 had 4 mains. As best I remember, 1979 was the last year for the 230/250.

Old a 194 230 and 250 cam should work in same block but a 292 has fuel pump in the center of engine..that was way I used to tell a 292 from the rest...

Henry ,Chevy started useing inserts in the rods in 1953 in cars with auyomatic transmisions,in 54 they all had inserts in the rods.

When we get done with this truck I will go down the road at a good speed. Plan is to use a 3/4 ton rear end in it plus maybe put in an aux tranny I have that would give the boy 16 forwards speed but the most important part about the aux tranny is that 4th in it is an over drive of about 1.5 to 1 so that will help a good bit also

cam in the 250 will be different then that in the 292. I just looked at a 250 I have in the shop and the fuel pump is just behind the oil filter and the fuel pump on the 292 is just below the gap between the lifter covers so it is in fact center of the engine. I still hope the 250 head is the same since only have 250 heads on had but need to build a 292 engine

Do you remember the GMC 6 cyl engines. The hot rodders used to put a Wayne 12 port head on them and boy would they go in a race car. Along with other modifactions
