My bad, think it's a diesel

Went by the 856 I posted about yesterday. The snow had melted off of it now and saw that it had a filter on the side of the engine. If you're looking at the front of the tractor the filter is on the left hand side towards the back of the engine. I was going through the arcives and got a mixed bag of answers of which engine it might be with the placement of the filter. I now assume it's a diesel and also assume it's the D407. Would the placement of the filter confrim that or does anybody think it would make it a D414? Also depending on which engine it is are there any issues with the diesels? Everything I read said the D407 is an excellent engine but I just wanna make sure that it would make a reliable tractor before I inquire about it. Thanks!

Also of it's a diesel are the injection pumps servicealbe? By that I mean could somebody like myself with a serice manual rebuild it if neccesary or would I have to send it out to get a pro to do it? Thanks again

Diesel injection pumps, as well as the injectors, are not serviceable by the average shade tree mechanic. Special, high priced equipment and tools are required.

I would but it's back off the road about 30 feet so I can't see it real well. I wanna get some info on it before I go back and bang on some doors

An 856 diesel will have TWO filters on each side of the engine.

Two oil filters near the rear of the engine on the left.
Two fuel filters hanging down on the right.

An 856 gas is relatively rare.

Forgot to mention, odds are if it's sitting there on an operating farm, it's in need of some major repairs.

The farm used to be opperating. The husband of the lady that lives there passed away a while ago so they rent there ground out. the people that rent the ground apparently use it every year or so to repair tile. Its got an excavator on the back. It's an interesting attachment
