In your opinion, what is the best looking pre 1960 IHC tractor model and what is the best looking post 1960 IHC tractor model (Pre CaseIH)?

Harold H

I think the best looking pre 1960 IHC tractor model is the McCormick WR-9 Rice Field Special tractors, WR-9, WDR-9, WR-9-S, and SWDR-9. I think the best looking post 1960 IHC tractor model is the Farmall 1206 equipped with a narrow tricycle front.

WOW! I didn't think many people liked the '50 series paint, 'round here most prefer the solid red. My pre would be 300, post would be 1206

IHC- 240,340,460,560,660. the 660 is my favorite and after this series i would choose the WD40.

Pre 1960 I have to say the 450, the look of the M with white insets and stainless trim made for a classic 50's look. Post 1960 I'll probably be black balled but, the 1468 with the V8 and twin stacks. Mite not have been the greatest mechaically but it did look like it ment business.

Pre 1960 is an easy choice, the 560. Post 1960, there are so many choices. 06' 56' 66' 86' and 88' all look good. Hmmm... I'll say the 1066 with the open station with flat top fenders and rock box. Even though the red cab on our 1066 kept us warm and dry, I wished IH had made a better decision with the style of cab to compete with the JD Soundgaurd cab.

Pre-1960: I"ve got an M I really like, and the Super-M is just as good. I"ve always been a fan of Raymond Lowey.
.
Post-1960: I like the "06, "56 and "66 series, to the point where I am considering putting flat top fenders on my M. I have a Farm Hand F11 front loader, and would just bolt the fenders to the loader frame. I love the looks of the dual headlights, and hope that by putting the headlights outside the loader frame, I can get better lighting than I can with the existing M light bar.

Pre '60, the 350/450 series.... post, the 5x88 series. I got in several hours on a 350 and 450, but never had the pleasure of running any of the 5088 series.

Pre 60 the TD 6 and 9 don't really care for any of the pre 60's wheel tractor look except for the Ford Ns /100 series, the Ferguson TOs and JD R. Post 60's the 86 series. Got both an M and a 1206. The M would look better on someone elses farm and the 1206 would look much better right now with a HEATED cab! 8)

This is a tough one and there are so many different ideas. I feel that alot of it depends on what you grew up with or spent time with. Pre 1960 = M, but the 560 has grown on me over the years.
Post 1960 = 56 series/66 series/88 series this is a tough one for me. I love my 656. I grew up with alot of 66 series tractors in the neighborhood but the 5088 of my cousin's was sweet and still is!

Thats easy.560 and 1206 hands down. That siad, the red and white tractors were/are some of the best lookers anywhere.

400 or an all red 450. I can't forgive IH for doing a cheap model change with a paint brush. Where did their integrity go?

All the post 1962 IH tractors look the same to me. No interest in them.

Pre 1960, H, SH, M, SM, SMD, SMTA, 400,450 & 560 diesel. Post, all diesel 06, 56, 66, 86, 30 & 50 series. Awesome powerfull looking tractors.

The TD-18 i had looked impressive with the twin stacks and i have allways wainted a 1468! Bud PS,The repowered HD-21 with the 12-71 Detrois was impressive! Bud.

Tough question-I like `em all !! That said, I like Stage 2 Super H`s along with Super MTA`s for the pre 60`s and I always thought the 806 was a great looking tractor. Also have a soft spot for the Super C and 230.

Pre 1960....the last of the straight M's (everything fit and looked purposeful, a brawny tractor.)great Raymond Loewy styling...it shows.
Post 1060...the last genuine Internationals, the 88 series with cabs. Modern and sleek. Nothing since with the CASEIH badge has been anywhere near as well styled, the Case-like hoods and grills (yuk) just ruined them. That black insect nose on the new ones is just awful!

Pre 1960 would be WD9 or 600/650. Post 1960,thats
a tough one:1206,4100,1066,1468 and any 50 series
maybe a 7488 also.

My favorite pro '60 would be the brauny WD-9. My favorite post '60 would be the IH 756D as it's my newest tractor and such a fun machine to drive!

I'm kind of partial towards my W6 and 10 20 but the TD24 was a marvoulous tractor too. You would of had to sit in the seat and flip it into two speed steer on one side to get my drift here. You take her out in the yard at full throttle, pull one lever back or push one forward and away you go for the ride of your life. Sit back and have no control over what happens next. Just sit there on that chesterfield seat and go round and round in a big circle. I did that back in 1979, seems like a long time to youn's but not me only half a life time ago. I had the good fortune of rewbuilding a clutch , trans and rearend of that wonderfull inovation to Heavy Equipment that year and then test driving it. WHAT an experiance, reparing and driving it. With heavy iron steering is the place you get stuck in hard going/ eg swamp. That ol Binder would two speed steer and keep on going when the Cat's,AC's and Euclid's would dig in and burry them selves as soon as you pulled a steering lever.

Tough one.Have a 350D and a Super A but I think my vote for the pre-60 goes to the H,especially with a wide front.Grew up on one and still think it"s the cats behind.
Post 60 is a 1086 with a cab.

LOL I meant that I like it so much that it was better looking than any post 1960 tractor they made...bot that's a tuffy...The green new gens sure had it in the post '60 looks dept. over IH...I guess it would be a toss up between an open station narrow front 806 and a yellow 4300.

Thanks for posting such a great ?

pre 1960 = my first Farmall I purchased on Sunday, January 11, 2004. A 1959 340 rowcrop $2,800.00 that included a rear blade. I'm not sure where it resides now.

post 1960 = my latest Farmall purchase; Monday, September 27, 2010 from an 87 - now 88 year old true gentleman farmer. I'm the proud, second owner of the last production year - 1963 - 460 rowcrop.
