Where do the rubber plugs go that came with my rear main seal stuff?

Does anybody supply this gasket or do I have to make it? 46240DB GASKET CRANKSHAFT REAR OIL SEAL RETAINER GASKET It is the upper half circle gasket that is part of the seal retainer.

Anything else while I am in there?

Plate that bolts to the lower main seal retainer has knotches at the end, plugs go in block there. Gas and diesel use the same upper retainer for the rope main seal because after they stated selling neopreme ones and kits for diesel, IH stated use old stock of the retainers as replacements for gas engine. They do show a different gasket though, maybe I can look tomorrow and see if a gas gasket works or you can make one. Have you checked case IH.

Messicks shows the diesel part # for $2.88, Hard to believe shows the gas for over $8.00, unless I got the numbers messed up.

I get most of my parts from CNH. I have seen better quality most of the time, but price leaves something to be desired. If I don't support them they will be just like the New Holland dealer 2 miles from my house. After 50+ years selling tractors Thursday was their last day.

Now you have me a little nervous about my dealers advice. They said that the felt seals were still the standard for rear mains. I thought I had heard about rear mains made of neoprene. Is that way better than the felt? (I think I know the answer) Do I have to use a spedi-sleeve to get rid of that oil slinger in the crank? Do I have to have the motor apart to do it?

Go with what you have, its cheaper and easy to find. On the other both upper and lower retainers have to be changed and the crankshaft grove edges dulled. At one time IH sold them in a kit with instructions about the crankshaft.
If the seal retainers for rope seals were wanted, you may notice the later parts books say order another part #. That was the replacement package. Late retainers were made from different material that didn't warp as bad.

I just finished this whole process with my MD. I made the retainer gasket with gasket material from NAPA. I now have several hours running time on this tractor, and no sign of leaks running or standing still.
