looking for information on how to determine age of farmall m engine based on serial number stamped on side.

If you can find a raised area on the right hand side of the block ( I think) with a number like 1 1 P (two numbers and a letter with dots between) it will tell you what year the block was cast. Someone can tell you or you can find in the archives which year had which letter.

Look for international harvester serial # records at the wisconsin historical society. If you can find the right ones you can find the year and month engine was put in the tractor. Or post the engine # and I will look at a chart I made up to tell you.

Look for a raised stamping on the right side of block, I think? somthing like this 1*12*y. This was made Jan 12th 1953. x would be 1952, z would be 54 and so on.
