super md piston

My father has a super md that the valve seat came out of it and hammered the top of the piston. He has been told to leave the piston alone by several guys. I'm not sure I would take the gamble. Does anyone know where we could come up with a single matching piston so we don't have to do a complete and expensive overhaul. The number on the top of the piston is 264320r2 - mp . Any advise on this subject would be appreciated by some of you experts out there.

Modest dents won't hurt the function. Collapsed ring lands and internal cracks will. I would have it checked for cracks with appropriate technology (Magna Flux, Zy-Glow or what an expert recommends in your area) but if it is not cracked or distorted I would run it. Jim

we don't have the piston out. Just by looking at it I think the ring groove may be questionable. The edge is beat up pretty good. He doesn't want to have to completely rebuild the engine if he doesn't have to. It was running exelent up until that funny pop happened. The head was ruined so he already has a lot of money in it. Just don't know what to do about the piston. I know I would replace it if it were mine but finding a single matching piston might be kind of tough.

The ring grove is down a ways from top.

This is the used piston in the other picture, same # piston you have. If interested in it, I would sell. Don't realy know what its worth. Don't think $50 total shipped to you in the lower 48 is out of line, but could be wrong.
