Swapping Sheet Metal

I finally gave up on finding decent sheet metal; hood and grill, for my Farmall 130. I bought an almost perfect grill off of Ebay and a new hood from OEM, both for a Super C.
I know that it is not "politically" correct, but it basically changes the tractor back to an A-1.
I don't intend to represent it as an A-1, only I was tired of having the rest of the tractor painted and ready to use but without a grill. If, at some point, I find a good reasonably priced grill, I will change it back over. What do you guys think? Remember; be nice. It is my tractor after all, but I do value "some" of you guy's opinion.

Here's my opinion on that.

Mind you I'm not a purist and none of my tractors are "restored"

My tractors were manufactured and wore out before I was born.

They are however reconditioned and work well. As an example my 53SH has fenders off of a 504, is converted to 12v is wired for trailer lights with flashers so it is safe to hay ride with at night on public roads.

My super C has fenders from a 240 and I custom made a gauge console attached to the touch control bracket so I can keep tabs on engine. Most people don't know the difference and think these old tractors are cool.

Go for it, make it look good and worry about the "restored" version later, if it's important to you

Those who criticize are not your friends any way.

the grille didn't change that much from the super c to the 130, certainly not like some other models, so it isn't that far off. plus, you need a grille to protect the radiator from an errant branch or whatever.
if you like looking at it, i'd say you did the right thing. like you said, you're not misrepresenting it. too bad there isn't a 130 decal you could put on the hood. THAT would really get people scratching their head. lol.

OMG!!!! I sure hope the "correct police" don't catch up with you... you'll never see daylight again  Dad had a JD 60 painted like a 620 and I worried every day he'd get caught.

The sheet metal on the hundred and 30/50 series is reputed to be pretty poor, especially the smaller tractors. Finding a decent set of tins is pretty much impossible.

Just so you're not accused of "misrepresenting" the tractor, consider installing the hood emblems on the Super C sheet metal.

Believe if it was me, I'd go to my local sign shop and get with the graphic artist there...see if he/she could make up a set of 130 "circle" decals.

THEN listen to the "correct police" howl.

But then, I'm the guy who wants to take a 340 and swap sheet metal to make a "Super C/TA" out of it...just to listen to 'em complain.

I have alot more respect for a person who uses and enjoys these old tractors (even if not perfectly correct) then having it sitting the sidelines doing nothing. If/when a correct set comes along, and you feel the urge to swap go ahead ! If it still bugs you though, please feel free to bring it up here where it will recieve a loving home even with the incorrect hood !

my 2 cents.

When I go to a tractor show I look for quality worksmanship, ingenuity, and fabricating skills.
I know what an "original tractor was, but how many shows would you go to if every tractor was bone stock original?

Had hood and grille off of my A at Dads place and he was in a clean up mood so thet wound up on load of scrap. Put hood and grille off of C on it and with a little tweaking they look OK to me but if I were to take it public I would get crufied by correct police. To me it is just an old tractor that I will never part with but no more than that.

To my way of thinking, it's just as "incorrect", or more so, when cast is smoothed up and something other than the original enamel is used. You can make them too purty... that's not restored, it's "custom". However, if that's your thing and it's your tractor, more power to ya', [u:7d3e3e27aa]just don't represent it as "restored[/u:7d3e3e27aa]"... it's restored to what? Surely not to original condition.

Ah come on guys, we all have an obligation to provide the Correct Police a reason to come to the shows. It's the neighbourly thing to do. :)

ANDY!! If you know where to find a GOOD USED Farmall 140 grille and nose piece, please let me know!! I have been looking for one for a while, and they are Hard to find having they don't make them aftermarket. Thanks.
