1466 pto problem

got a 1466 that I rebuilt the pto clutch in this summer. the owner said it worked real good chopping etc. Anyways he was hauling manure with a 1000 rpm spreader and the pto stopped. I put my test gauge in the test hole and got 300psi so the pressure is good so I dont think it would have any internal leaks. The pto will not turn on even with nothing hooked to it. He told me the spreader was froze and he slipped the pto a little to get it broke loose but the pto worked fine for about 5 loads then quit. Could he have smoked the clutch out that easy? I would think it would still run with nothing hooked up to it. What do you guys think? He is brining the tractor here for me to look at and was wondering about warranty. I will know more when I get it apart. But how do you warranty something that could possibly be abused?

It is possible for sure! "I only slipped it a little..." well was that at idle or at mid to high rpm? At mid or high rpm that creates a lot of heat fast. Considering that he chopped his corn with it... How hard did he push it ? But you will be able to tell when you remove the pto assembly to see if the clutches are burnt. It sounds like there has been enough use to not be warranty. Not to ask a dumb question...but is the valve working right? What about the 1/16" roll pin in the valve assembly?

Stripped splines up front in the engine clutch? I would think the PTO would turn a little bit if those splines went out. Jim

The life of the clutch linings while being slipped in a matter of seconds, not minutes. It is possible that he cooked the facings of the linings and then with continued use they came apart.

There is a snap ring that limits piston travel so if the facings are gone you can get full pressure but not have any clamping force on the linings. It is unusual that the shaft does not turn with no load since the brakes should be released with the clutch engaged.
