happy new year all. I've played with jd for years now it's time for farmall. i have a 1938 just bought from readin so far 60psi compression should do but so far no spark at magneato and don't understand manual spark advance at the steerin wheel cant wait to try runnin it when i get home. any good advice besides buyin a manual witch havent done yet

Make shure the impulse on the mag works and never leave it in gear. 50 years ago my Dad pulled down both levers and spun the crank!! He cought it in the field after it ran over 2 sections of spike drag and went through the fence! The neighbor kid and i used to race as theirs had a road gear in place of 3'rd and ours had the extra trans road gear! Bud.

Tug, If you have an IH F-4 mag there is a cap to remove and see if you points are opening.
The cap has a tab that conects to the rod to steering coloum. Full down on cap is kill off,
Up a little is retard spark and full up is run position. If you get no spark in run position eather point are bad or not set right. Coil in mag is bad or condensor. Most I have had needed the coil replaced. I order and replace my own not hard to do. Oldiron29

Pegged yourself as a JD man with that "all fuel" thing in you title. You have a gas start kerosene tractor now. I will scan the starting instructions from one of my manuals and post them for you.

Does it have its original kerosene manifold or an aftermarket gas manifold?
