ATF and Hy-Tran mix.

I just got done putting a 560 diesel back together after doing some engine work. The gentleman I bought it from said he has run ATF in the hydraulic/transmission ever since he's had it. I want to know if ATF and Hy-Tran will mix together as it has an all hydraulic loader and even if I tried to drain it completely I'm sure 2-3 gallons of ATF would remain. My Plan is to drain 5 gallons and put 5 gallons of Hy-Tran in it and just drain 5 gallons and replace it with Hy-Tran for the next 2-3 years. After that time there should be very little ATF left and then I'll just replace the Hy-Tran every 5 years or so thereafter. What do you fellows think???

The ATF should not hurt anything.

If you think it is hurting it, why wouldn't you change it all at once to get it out?

If it caused no problems with 100% ATF why will a couple of gallons hurt.

Yes the 2 two will mix.

Where in my post did I mention I was concerned about the ATF causing damage? I am concerned about compatibility issues with the ATF and Hy-Tran mixing together. I think I made that clear. It would literally be impossible to get the last half gallon or so of ATF out of the entire system and this is why I ask.

I guess I should have left the word hurting out and said why drain any of it unless your going to drain it all.

Kinda like pulling 2 quarts of oil out of the engine and putting two new quarts in.

Tell me how I'm going to drain it all? I could put in a 10 hour day trying to get every last drop out of the system but the fact remains that there is still going to be 1/2-1 gallon in it when I'm done. That leads me to my initial question now doesn't it? It's not my fault you assume, can't comprehend the initial post and then stray off topic. If you have nothing to add to the conversation than just bud out.

When you asked your question you asked for our opinions.

I gave mine.

Relax it's just a discussion board

I just typed a really long post that was rejected. Here is the short...do it. I have been doing it on three machines for work for over three years and haven't seen a problem yet.
Blow air through the lines and unhook the rams and push them in and out by hand if you are really worried. Also, turn the tractor over and you should push most of the oil out of the pump.

You asked what we thought and we told you. I can't see how you perceived an insult but so be it. I didn't know our answers were being graded.
