Thanks to:jdemaris,John T,Bob, and the rest who helped me get this 12v conversion done. The rest of this is for the Archives.

This is a 12v conversion on a 1955 Farmall 300. The alternator is a Hitachi 14231 purchased from the local auto parts store for $55.30 + $10. core. Diode is a part #276-1143 purchased at Radio Shack for $1.69 for 2. White strip on diode goes towards the alternator. I did drill out the metric holes in the alternator and the original bracket on the 300 to 3/8", and used 3/8" all thread rod.

Yes it's a condensor, supposed to keep radio interference down. It's not needed, I just did't take it off.

Sweet, fun to hear a little follow up. While Im not generally an alternator conversion fan, I have to admit they can give years of trouble free performance plus good charging amps even at lower RPM.

Thats a pretty slick mount with the threaded rod. Looks good. Now I'm going to have to check on that with a small body GM alternator!

Nice job. I love the Hitahci alternators for conversions. They take less room then the Delco 10SIs and are built more rugged. I've been using them for years, yanked off rusty Subarus and Isuzus.
