Does anyone have any experience removing the bands? I
have the cover off and the right brake pedal i just cant figure
out how to get the bands off. I looked through the archives
and someone said to beat the pins out. But beat them
where? There is no way that i can see to beat them away
from the transmission and beating them the other way wont
they hit the housing? Thanks in advance

Those pins just set into a hole in the transmission housing, and also into a corresponding hole in the brake cover. The pins are SUPPOSED to come out with the cover. Yours are probably stuck tight from rust and other crud, so get out the penetrating oil and be patient. PLEASE, do not beat on anything.

If the 2 pins that hold the bands are stuck tight. Remove the operating arm on the outside of the cover, then the key. Band operating assembly can then be removed from cover housing and then the band retaining pins removed.

i have the arm, key and cover off. just which way am i trying to get the pins to move? towards or away from the transmission? thanks

It sounds like the shaft that the band attaches to is still in the transmission housing. Now that you have the cover off, clamp the short arm back on this shaft (minus the cover and spring assembly) and use it to work the shaft out of the housing. The shaft rides on a thin brass bushing in a blind hole of the housing and over the years of dust and dirt accumulation can become quite difficult to pull out. It also helps to turn the shaft to have maximum looseness of the band around the drum. Once the shaft and band are off and in the vise, the pins are much easier to remove.

Rusty Farmall is dead on the money. Those pins sit in a brass bushing that slides into the transmission housing. There is rust and corrosion which have welded them in the place and they are a nightmare to get out when that happens. I had an H like that and it took me and a friend half a day to get one out. We kept spraying penetrating oil down the side of the trans housing and put a long prybar inside the brake pan,as close to the bushing as we could shove the pry bar..we oiled, wingled tapped on the prybar and eventually after several attempts over the day it moved and finally came off. The rust had expanded the tolerance in the hole and vitually clamped the pin in the hole. It took some cleaning with a tiny wirebrush on a drill to clean the hole up,sandpaper and emery cloth, then a new brass bushing and my brakes were working. This tractor had sat outside for many years before I bought it.

I misunderstood, as the other fellows said the band operating assembly shaft is supposed to slide out of the transmission housing. Once out of the cover and transmision housing the pins can be removed in both directions. When you stated the brake cover was removed I assumed with the band. Most covers can be removed with the bands and the operating arm at one time.
