New Book, Vintage Photo of 504 and plow

I got the book, 'Classic Farmall Tractors' by Kenneth Updike, it is a great read with many photos both vintage and current. One of the photos i found intersting was a vintage photo of a 504 pulling a 4 bottom plow, sure must be easy ground for a 504 to pull that trailer plow. Obviously must have been for sales i would think?

The piccy could have been taken at a location with sandy soil. I'd have to check and see if it was marked.
 
My grandfather used a 4 bottom plow with his MD for years. In 56 he traded the MD for a Farmall 300. He continued to plow with the 4 bottom plow till 70 when he retired. He did say "the 300 got red in the face pulling the plow" I live in PEI Canada which is an island in the Atlantic ocean. Its really a big sand bar. Kent
 
The owners manual shows a 3 point mounted. Mine won t pull a 4 bottom in my ground but my 656 will!
 
Maybe. The 504 is rated at 46 horse but I have a 504 and it ain't no M. And to compare it to a 300, it ain't no 300. I call it a glorified Super C

Thats what i always thought to, I know to pull my case 4 bottom, i needed my Super MD up in the 9000lb range an overbore kit and larger pump off a 650D unit. I thought it was interesting photo at least.

Depends.....in the Red River valley of the north they used to pull 4 bottoms with regular M's while around Crown Point, Indiana they pulled 2 bottoms with M's. Here in Michigan where I live we pulled 3-14's with M's and in sandy loam we "cruised" in 3rd, but on the red clay hills or in quackgrass or alfalfa sod it was 2nd or even 1st, sometimes with the front wheels off the ground and riding the left brake to keep the land wheel from spinning out.
