Super A hydraulic stops

Picture is of the one surviving original stop sitting side by side with a new one I bought to replace the other original which was broken. Seeing on reassembly of the tractor that there is no threads in the original to put in a new thumb screw. Is this fixable? The new one has an insert with threads and I was wondering if this is some type of hardware I am not familiar with? Only idea I can come up with is to round off the points on a #10 nut and see if I can press it in there with some type of adhesive. Picture is a little fuzzy but the old one has the larger hole and the new one has an insert in the hole with threaded center. Any ideas much appreciatated.

Tap it, and use a larger thumb screw. That should be Easily tapped.

No...don't think so. Buy a new one first so they match. That is most of a 3/8 inch opening. What you are suggesting would more likely just increase the difficulty of using the item. Now if I could tap it out and thread in some hollow piece of hardware that could in turn be tapped to the right size....but rounding a nut sounds like an easier idea unless someone has a better plan. Think I'll stand by a while and see what comes up.

Dave, there are several solutions.
Helicoil is available at all NAPA and auto stores like it. the link below is also good.
An insert will make threads that will wear better than if tapped into larger.

THAT'S what I am talking about! Can't believe I did not think of helicoil. The guy who re-worked my rear main seal retainer on the Cub was showing me his during a very pleasant visit we had one morning last summer. The inserts look like a good idea too. Thanks again, Jim...you got me off and running!

Depends on what you think your time is worth. As I get older, I have come to the realization that my time is getting shorter and I can't afford to spend 5 hours with a questionable repair on a $10 part. The cost of an helicoil or insert will probably cost about as much as a new hydraulic stop.
GOOGLE the part number and you'll probably find new or new after-market hydraulic stops.

Well...yeah...I bought the one on the left from TM but they is closed for another week. The inserts are too expensive but helicoil is still an option. Kinda like to give that a try. Have other uses for those and they are a bit more affordable. Still looking and thinking....
