heating paint booth

just wondering what anyone is using for heating a paint booth. we have one in the corner of our shop which has radiant floor heat, but we only heat to about 55-60 degrees. we have been heating it up with a salamander, but are thinking about some sort of small radiant or ceramic type heater. the booth is only 16x 20 so its not alot of area. just looking for ideas, thanks in advance

I think 55 - 60 is a good temp for painting. It just takes a little longer between coats. I use a propane heater that has a fan built in .It heats my 14x22 paint booth up quickly, but i only run it before i start shooting paint. I'm scared it might make the paint explode if i used it between coats.

Radiant is perfect, can you segment that loop off and put it on a separate thermostat? Flames or heating coils are not a good idea with paint spray.,

Good plan about the explosion. I think that since he already has an insulated space and get and hole a nice 55-60 then it would be simple to use the torpedo heater to heat it up more if wanted. Then just simply shut her down when you are ready to spray.

WOW, I'm jealous of you guys. Yall have your own paint booths, plus they alone are bigger than my shop!! My shop is only 12x24 and thats where I do all the work on the tractors. Wish I had a nice roomy shop like that, especially one to close the doors on and heat!!

I'm toying with the same thinking as I am going to be adding an insulated addition to my tractor shed. I thought of several things I would like to incorporate in the area actually in a corner like you have. I want to add an exhaust fan (will have to be a non-sparking UL approved type motor) to remove the vapor from the area. I am also going to put in plenty of lighting and some sort of a curtain you can pull around the tractor when painting. I'm thinking of using some type of track like in a hospital between patients and making a curtain with a weighted bottome to pull around the tractor when painting to keep the red dust from everything. I have tossed the heating thing around in my head quite a bit but since my new addition will be 20' X 30' only about 1/4 will be the paint area. I really haven't got too deep into the heat and cooling system thinking yet but am going to give a heat pump a good review. I don't think they are a sparking thing and if they are it would be located outside so would probably be ok. Have also thought about those heating and cooling units which are used a lot in motels. I think they would probably work but really need to study them some more. Something that removes humidity would certainly be a plus for painting. Just thoughts at this time but maybe there is something you can gleem from this. I live in Missouri and would probably only need to heat to 50 F (unless painting) and cool down to 80 F so I'm thinking a heat pump could handle that with little effort, Hal.
