560 Gas Engine

Our 560 with a gas engine will foul plugs on cylinder 3 & 4 after running for a short time. Running the choke out a bit will help, but not for long. We don't use the tractor very often, so would it be wiser to overhaul the engine or look for a good use one?? Thanks for any input!

is it gas fouling or oil fouling?? for a temporary fix, head on over to a napa auto parts and get some anti fouling caps for the spark plugs. they screw on to the end of the plug and pull it up out of the combustion chamber some and will not foul as fast.

It is very unlikely you will find a complete, used engine that is any better, if even as good, as what you have now. If the spark plugs are fouling because of heavy oil consumption, you might as well bite the bullet and do a full rebuild on the engine. However, I don't understand how running the choke part way out is going to help. That just doesn't make any sense to me. If the engine is NOT burning a lot of oil, I think a good general tune-up is in order first. Rebuild the carburetor, and maybe even replace the ignition coil, but not necessarily in that order. It also wouldn't hurt a thing to pull the throttle back on that tractor and make it work hard for 15 to 20 minutes.

When the plugs foul, I remove them and they are severly corroded with oil deposit. Clean them up and the tractor sounds good again... For a short time. Will those caps from Napa work for the oil?

an engine works at a certain air fuel mixture, if you say your pulling the choke back to make it run alittle better that means your restricting air flow , in other words richining the mixture to make it run good, this sounds like you have to adjust the air fuel mix on your carb, try that first before you rebuild your motor and see what happens, iffin the A/F is properly adjusted and you stop fouling your plugs everything might be dandy. but if your plugs are indeed being fouled with oil you do have a problem, you say oil corrosion which really doesnt add up?
post a pic of one of your oil corroded plugs.
