Hydraulics in cold weather

I started my H the other day and have a bucket on the front. The loader will often sink down the longer it sets. I was wonder what oil should be used in the resivore and is it 17 quarts? That seemed like a lot to me. Also i think the belt pully is in with the hydraulic pump so i turned it on to warm the oil up. Finally when i got the pump going and the oil flowed. One of the cylinders on my loader had no pressure in it. Only one lifted. I noticed this from driving and seeing my other cylinder bouncing as i drove.

If you are still using the belly pump the belt isn't part of it. The belt runs off a gear in the trany. I don't have a working belly pump but my book calls for 30 weight oil. The amount I can't answer because I can't find my books right now sorry. As for the cylinder not getting oil to it. That depends on the way it's plumbed and the control system. If they are both plumbed to the same supply line from the pump then you have something wrong with the cylinder or it's own supply line. crack the line on the suspect cylinder and try lifting. There should be oil present. If there is then you have a cylinder problem. Others will get much more in depth with you to solve the problem. Good luck.

If you are using that loader in real cold weather, I would get rid of the 30 weight oil and replace it with hydraulic oil, the cylinder that is acting up may have air trapped in it. raise the loader to the top and hold your lever to pressure up the system, air should be force out. good luck

(quoted from post at 18:27:04 12/24/10) The belly pump on the H is 24 quarts of any good hydraulic oil.

They must grow those pumps big out where you live. I've only seen the six quart kind although you can get about two gallons in if you fill it to the top.

manual spec. lists 6 quarts for lift-all,the 24 quarts mentioned must have been for transmission & diff. oil capacity

Hey! Your right. Don't know where I got 24. Just changed and refilled mine last fall--6 qts.

There's probably as much water as oil in your hydraulic system. The line to one cylinder is probably a solid chunk of ice in this weather.

I mixed up the specs for my 9n and H. Both have been down lately and I'm trying to get both in working order to remove snow and start hauling fire wood. Thanks guys. I appreciate it.
