Found a parts SMTAD today no motor. Just a parts tractor what would be a fair price to offer for it and is a 400d motor the same motor

The hood, grill, oil reservoir, and rear frame lid all have good value. Other cast parts have value by virtue of their late "Y" (if any) and "Z" codes. If the grill is in good condition, it may be worth as much as $500 by itself. The SMTAD fuel tank may be special also but I won't guarantee that.

People like to mfg SMTA from 400s. "Z" codes should sell well on eBay.

400D motor will drop in but may have a block with an "A" or "B" code.

I would offer something in excess of $250/ton. That means $500 plus. Don't go nutz. Diesels are expensive to rebuild and you are only likely to find a core that needs work.

I think you are forgetting about that magic serial number plates value as well! I would offer at least $500 for it. I wouldn't feel bad tossing in any old diesel motor to make it a worker. 90% of the people wouldn't even know the difference :wink:
 
Maybe sold to cheap, sold one I picked up in 2004 for less than $500. Good tag, no engine, hood, grill. Can't remember but don't think a radiator or drawbar also. Think tires and rims were just enough to roll. Need more information to even guess a price.
Going to be some things a little different but a MD, SMD, 400D and 450D engine can be and will work. Some of those engines it may take a nit picker like me to tell its not a original SMTAD engine.
