found a 49 m sitting in the weeds, where it was parked 35 years ago, guy said, make me an offer, I knew it was too much, but offered $700, his reply was, well if thats all its worth I'll keep it. a year later he gave it to my neighbor, he's using it for yard art.

That guy is an idiot. I paid 800 for my running M last fall.

Even moving it on flat tires is a pain. Value is as described below. The scrap price thus includes the charges for relocating the thing to the scrap yard. If you like it, and if it is purchased for a very reasonable 200 or less, expect to spend at least 3000 on repairs and tires. Thus you will have a usable pulling device that has no Live PTO, No live hydraulics, no power steering, and is as lovable as St. Barnard, big - awkward - powerful and will drool in the living room. (Oh yea I forgot it will be worth 2/3 of that expense on the market, but would cost 15 times that to replace with a new tractor. Jim

Harsh, but true. Tough times over there Jim? You've been kind of cynical lately :) Pretty soon you will be labeled like me:)

BTW, he has it about right. I don't think my M is that akward and I wouldn't give it up for 5 H's!

Around here the tractor junkyard would pay $500 for it and they would be the highest bidder. You wouldn't get that much to send it to China bc of the tires.

Not an expert like some of these guys but I"d say it"s worth what you"d be willing to pay. If you just want to save a bit of history since every one that goes for scrap is one more not available to your children it"s up to you. An old stuck tractor is a money pit. Worse than that even . But being stuck is the cheap part as it may not take much to get it unstuck or it may be so corroded on the inside you won"t get it unstuck with c-4 in the cylinders. It"s the tires that will bring the most money to someone else"s pocket. Take a look into the main frame through the oil fill hole and see what the gears look like. If they are rusted and pitted offer em 100 bucks . That tractor , even if you get it running , will most likely always be noisy when moving. Same goes for both of em . But if you think you can get em unstuck offer em more, rims for a M aren"t hard to come by , at least around here , and paint isn"t important unless you are compensating for something that"s lacking in your life. All the rest is nickle and dime , but it all adds up. I can"t see buying any old tractor as an investment so I hope you aren"t looking to make money on em. If so collect old Harley"s instead.
