i just found out how come i dont have any brakes lol this seal is leaking and has been for a very long time,i pulled about 1/2 lb of old hay, and whatever covered in gear lube out of the brake housing, im sure the other side of the tractor looks just as bad now, this is on the side of the differentail where the final drive assembly bolts on, there is no number anymore, does anybody have a c/r or national seal number for this seal? also if i take the 3 bolts out and remove this plate to change it, will anything bad happen? or is it better to just pop this one out with the flange in place, thanks

here is the seal

Before you get carried away with the seals, check out the tranny and see if it's filled to the proper level. You just may find it's overfilled and the seals you're looking to replace aren't designed to keep out a flood. Take the top of the tranny off (10 bolts) after putting it in neutral and see what's going on in there. Probably wouldn't hurt to pull the bottom plug, drain and flush with kerosene or brake cleaner and refill with 80-90 gear lube (3 1/2 pts). Craig

Chances ar good you have an old leather seal, and it needs replaced. Even in the oil level was high, if the seal was good, the leakage should not be so much as to affect your brakes. The quill that holds the seal can be removed without any consequences, but there are likely shims behind it, and a large rubber oring that seals the quill in the bore. Remove the three bolts and carefully begin working the quill out, starting with a stiff putty knife, andgraduating up in size to smaller pry bars, used carefully so as to not damage the shims or break the quill.
Once you have it out, any local bearing/seal supplier can match it easily.

thanks craig, i had already done that and it was overfilled, i flushed it good then refilled, i think one of the problems is this tractor has sat parked in a garage for many years and now that its a 'using tractor' i expect some of the old seals may start to seep oil, i cleaned out about 1/2 lb of oil soaked old hay ect out of the brake housing so it aparently has been leaking for some time, got 1 seal comming today and the other side next week, after that all i lack is replacing the mag points and hopefully that will cure my cold start problem then its ready to work
