Farmall H 12 volt lights

I am in the process of converting my H over to 12volts and had some questions about the lights. I understand I need to replace the 6 volt lights or bulbs. I put in a #1156 12 volt bulb for testing, it works but is intended to be a signal/back up light so probably isn’t bright enough for a headlight. Does anyone know what bulb is typically used in the conversion? Is there an enclosed lens, bulb, reflector pan light that will fit right in? My reflector pan is pretty dull and corroded, I doubt it will do much reflecting.

Also, I saw a picture on the front of an OEM magazine that showed a light bar mounted to the front of a Farmall, were these intended to be mounted on either the steering pedestal or the grill or was someone just getting creative?

Ok, as long as you are still reading, I thought it might be save to throw in another 6 volt/ 12 volt conversion question, as others have stated in the past the 1970’s GM 55amp alternator just doesn’t fit under the hood. Luckily I think I can return it, but I need to come up with a smaller alternator option, suggestions?

Do a GOOGLE search on "Farmall H Hitachi". I believe the bulb is a #1143.
This may head you in a direction to answer your questions.

I bought a Super H that had been converted over from a 6 volt to a 12 volt system and the lights had all been burned out. I got replacement bulbs (sealed beams) from OEM Tractor Parts. As I recall, they were about $35.00 each. My light bar is on the column. If you do use the sealed beams I mentioned, be sure you that you get them hooked up correctly. (Positive and ground). If not, they will burn out. LOL.

The correct 12 volt bulb is an 1143. The reflectors can be replaced. I have the bulbs and reflectors.

Since you arent original why not just buy new sealed beam types. You can finds them for around 12 each local farm type stores maybe even Wall Mart. You said your reflectors are bad you can paint them with a spray bomb using Chrome and new bulbs are around 4 they will work pretty good when finished unless you also need new rubber gaskets then more money

I converted my Farmall M to 12 volts. The old teardrop lights were in poor shape, so I replaced them with halogen teardrop lamps of almost the same size and shape from (gag) Harbor Freight. Had to buff the chrome finish before spraying them red, but installation was easy, the lamps were cheap, and they've provide LOTS of light for three years now.

Please explain how & why they will burn out if the bulbs are the right voltage? + or - ground has nothing to do with lights.

That pic doesn"t look correct with front lights, but now i"m curious if the bolt holes match up without modification?
I would imagine some row crop/cultivation/mounted harvester operations would require the lights way up there for best visibility. And probably lenses aimed straight down. They weren"t worried about the road, just seeing their work.
