Painting of Farmall A starter/generator

Hello. Got a question for you about painting of the starter and generator from the factory. This is a 1945 Farmall A. Were they left Black or painted Red like the tractor? THANKS

They were red from the factory. Dealer replacements were black, though.

The starters and generators as provided by Delco Remy were all painted black when they were shipped to IHC. If they were installed on tractors at the factory it was done before the tractor was painted so they ended up being painted red along with the rest of the tractor. If they were shipped either as a whole goods attachment or through the parts channel they were not repainted so they stayed black.
