Looking at a 650 has a miss when started when started and then all clears up..Water level is up and oil is black not milky..Looking for opinions Thanks...

Letting it run on gasoline for 2 minutes, then switching should have less than 15 seconds of missing on diesel. If it is switched over too early it will show some white smoke. If it is rich on the gas operation, it will be gray white looking diesel misfiring. If it takes 30 seconds to two minutes to clear up, it could have a poor injector pattern, or poor compression. A compression test and leak down test can be made on the gasoline operation to assess differences between cylinders.
Finding the cylinder that leaks can be easily determined with a hand held infrared digital meter. Good luck. Jim

The other issue is he has not heard it run on gas..(pull starts it on diesel) The water level always stays up..The tractor is 4 hours away so I'm doing some preliminary checks here..open to more opinions thanks..

Then the missing is to be expected. They are intentionally a low compression diesel and require some heat to fire smoothly.

First order of business when looking at a gas-start diesel is to arrive when the tractor is stone cold, crack the drain plug and see if you get any antifreeze.
