Fluid for a 460 Utility

Have just gotten a 460 International Utility Tractor. 4 cylinder engine. Believe it to be a 1960. Problem is all the 460 manuals I ordered show a 6 cylinder engine. Tractors appear to be a newer model with some differences.Need to know where to add the hydralic fluid for the power steering on it. And also where to add hydralic fluid for the rest of the hydralics. Also will my standard hydralic tractor fluid work. Anyone have the same problem obtaining the correct manuals for this make. Seems closer to a 300 utility model than the 460. Thanks

Assuming{bad thing to do} that the 460 is the same as the 560 there are no hyd. brakes and all hyd. is added into the transnission/rearend cover to the right of the transmission gearshift lever. Hy-tran oil would be the oil to use. Power steering and all hyd. valves share same oil. Main hyd. pump and power steering pump are piggy-backed togather. This is assuming that the 460 utility and Farmall 560D are plumbed the same. Please post tractor serial number and some pictures and we will be better able to assist you. Armand

If it has a four cylinder engine it is not a 460. Please post some pics so the folks here can help you figure out what you have.

It sounds like you either have a 300/330/or350 Utility. All 460s were six cylinder tractors. Use Hy-Tran fluid or good generic brand equivilent. Post picture and someone will tell you what you have.

Fallon; I peeked in the "Tractor Photos" archives and found a good photo; after viewing about two dozen other poor photos. The link below shots a full-framed tractor photo. The 40/60 series were produced from 1958 - 1963 minus a year short for the 240. IH"s 460/560 were their first six-cylinder models, so if you get your new purchase identified, this knowledgeable board will be able to help you out. Also, the archives are loaded with info, polite and impolite comments and wise cracks. Good luck with your red iron disease!

The 340 Utility has a 4 cylinder engine and has mostly the same styling as a 460, only smaller. 300/330/350 utlities have completely different styling, although they share some features. Simplest way is to look all of them up on the tractor photos to your left -- they are all there. 340 was built the same years as the 460, 1958-63. I promise you that the 460 never came with a 4 cylinder engine, and I doubt if one would fit, but anything is possible with modifications.

Hope you didn't overpay! maybe the clutch housing was swapped out for some reason?
Maybe it is a 340?
It could be a 504 which would be slightly newer or if newer, 544 or 664...but then it would almost look like a mini 806 or 856.
You might have a mutt, which will be a workhorse but difficult to identify.
