OT - Ticks in the winter....

I live in sw Michigan where, at least to me, dog ticks are unheard of in the winter months. We have had several weeks of temps in the 10-20’s. This morning I found a tick feeding on my dog’s ear.
I keep a dog house on the kitchen porch, out of the wind, for her to use if I fall back asleep when she has to go out in the middle of the night. The only thing I can think of is that I bought a new bale of straw for the doghouse a week ago and the tick might have been hibernating in it.
I sprayed the inside of the doghouse and hopefully that will do it.
I have never seen a tick in the winter before.

I only mean this in the nicest way, but do you post on Tractor Talk? I don't. Really not looking for what it offers but many do. Lots of varied topics and people to carry thru on the threads. It is not my job to tell anyone where and what to post. Just thinking that maybe it is something of interest to you if you have not found it already.

Dave,
Hence the prefix - OT - which then gives lets you choose whether to read it or not.

Somehow, when I wrote it, I knew you would take it well. :)

So...since we live in the same basic area. NO, I have never seen a tick in the winter. The theory about the straw...good as any. Now all you need is 10-15 other comments on it and, meanwhile, posts relevant to the manufacturer specific forum can get pushed back a few pages. Not trying to give you a hard time. Just thought you would like TT.

I just hope you don't let the dog in the house after you sprayed it for at leasst 5 days. Malation? Not good for your dog to ingest.
That being said I Am in SD where it has been in single digits a lot. I also pulled a brown deer tick off my dogs head about 10 days ago. And no new straw around.

Gordo,
I assume you meant Malathion. But no, I used Raid House and Garden with Permitheron (Sp?).
The previous response is further proof the nomenclature "Tractor Guro" is simply a calculation of number of posts which has nothing to do with expertise or intelligience.
I hope your "furry friend" is doing well.

Merry Christmas,
Dell

I can understand the posting of OT in a particular area on YT due to being more comfortable with the responses of the folks in one area over another. TT ( in my experience ) has more critical responses of which some are downright antagonistic . IA (implement alley) has a LOT of good well meaning folks on it . A few of the other color specific pages are annoying to read because of the bad attitudes of some posters . Just my opinion BTW . I've been reading these pages for years and about a year ago just quit posting due to all the know-it-all's . I'm not pointing a finger at you mind you , just voicing my side of the issue. You were very tactful in your post .

Well I tried to be and I certainly did not resort to the immature behaviour evidenced in his latest post to the thread. I don't hang out on TT either. Just not what I am interested in. My point was that if everybody who frequents this board starts posting every thought that comes into their head regardless of topic matter, the forum becomes cluttered and we no longer have an IH discussion forum. They have a forum for that and it is not this one. I made a polite suggestion. He reacted negatively. Here we are ten hours later and he is still nursing a grudge. You can put your own label on it but I know what I would call it.

LOL Yup I see your point . There does have to be some parameters but in the same light posting negatively ( or positively ) to a OT post is in itself an OT post . I'm sooo confused !! Haha . I'm done . :)
