You are thinking EMP. And yes they will continue.

EMP weapons mostly are only able to just put enough voltage into wiring to disrupt electronics, and that means the alternator mostly. Even an alternator is barely considered to be electronic. EMP may disrupt ignition long enough to kill a gas engine. Maybe. Electronics are primarily attacked by over voltage due to the outlying wires, and most can only tolerate low voltages. Power supplies must normally be kept with 25% of the spec or the high zoot electronics may pop. If you are close enough to have arc damage to wiring, from EMP or HPM devices, you really have much more pressing problems to deal with.

Yeah, at that point you probably won't care if your old tractor starts or not!

I heard some old timers talking about planes and the cold war.
The story was the USA captured a soviet plane and the engineers and mechanics were laughing at all the antique tubes(valves) they found in the electrical panels--not a transistor in the plane. The laughter went on awhile, and then an old guy piped up that in an EMP/nuclear blast situation the soviet plane would be able to (continue to) fly.

true story???
Government need would explain why all your new audiophile, guitar, and electric organ tubes come from the soviet region.
