Intl 434 424 / Clutch Pedal Adjustment

Reading manual and noting that it calls for 3/4" play at the top before engagement of clutch on 2 stage option. Mine is currently at 2" and PTO clutch will not disengage. Tonight, set it at 3/4", socked down the nuts/bolts til veins popped out on my forehead, then pressed down on clutch pedal. 3rd or 4th press, I could feel the pedal slip on the shaft and play went back to 2".

Now I have the pedal off, deburring shaft and hole of pedal and will try again.

Anyone have this issue? If this doesn"t work, I might drill and pin it? then I won"t have adjustment. Seems like a "not good" clutch adjustment design. Loctite?

I have several and never had one slip on the shaft. The PTO clutch has many times gotten stuck and would not disengage - but that's a totally differemt issue. Adjustment hasn't been my problem.

Mine are other British models, but they all use the same basic clutch setup (I think), if dual-clutch live PTO. I have B275s, B414s and a 3414.

Had a lot to do with the 434 tractor clutches but never had your fault. Take the tin cover of from under the clutch and get someone to press the pedal while you shine a torch up the hole and inspect the clutch movement. The PTO clutch may need adjusting per the operators manual. MJ

I had success deburring the shaft with a file and roughing it up with 80 grit. Then I got brand new 3/8-24 grade 8 bolts, nuts, washers and tightened it down good. Problem solved.

My problem was the free play was 2", so the pedal was bottoming out before the 2nd stage PTO clutch would disengage.
