hi everyone . thanks in advance for your help and thanks for the past help. i am rebuilding a super c and took the fan and pullys apart. wanted to replace all the bearings in everything and discovered that inside the pullys was a resivore for oil. the oil that was in there was the consistancy of gasket glue. what kind of oil do i put back in and how much. there is just a screw to fill it. thanks
 
You use the same oil as you use in the engine. The oil in the fan bearing is put in through the screw hole. There is supposed to be a little stand pipe inside the housing. To fill it, you turn the fan so the hole is horizontal and fill with an oil can. Then turn the hole down and let the excess oil drain out to the correct level which is at the top of the little stand pipe. You say you have the assembly apart. When you reassemble, make sure you get the slinger ring with the spiral groove put back the same way it came out. The spiral grooves pump oil to the bearing. Also, there is no shaft seal on any consequence on these. When the tractor is running centrifugal force keeps the oil at the outer part of the housing and so it does not leak out unless the housing is over filled.
 
thanks , ive had the tractor for a long time and never knew about this. seen the stand pipe inside and put a new o ring on the screw.
 
New fan assemblies with sealed bearings are available for around $70.00. I put one on a SC and have been been very happy with it. I did dissassemble the failed fan hub and decided not to rebuild it.

On my C I filled the fan assembly with WD40 and let it run out, several times, till it was clear. Then filled with 30W motor oil. It works great now and quieted it right down.
