engine heater

The drifts here are over 4' the wind is still real bad. I will have to use my gas backhoe IH2500 (same as a 504) to dig out tomorrow. Temp is suppose to be below zero. I have a engine heater with a magnet never used it. How long should I leave it on the tractor that it will help start it? It always starts good but takes along time to warm up. THANKS

Unless the backhoe is out of the wind, you have a very flat oil pan, and a good powerful heater I wouldn't expect to gain too much from it. I've used them before and unless it's inside a shed you'll probably lose of what you gain before it makes a difference. Best of luck, Sam

Those magnetic heaters help some but very little. For sure leave it plugged in 24/7 and tarp the tractor to help hold any heat in. A trouble light close to the block gives off some heat too.
