Tractor Insurance

I started quite a discussion a while back when I asked about insurance for my tractor. Most folks said forget it. You can't get it. And every company I talked to confirmed that. After I spoke to my regular agent and she said no, I went home unhappy. BUT she called back the next day and said I can get you some insurance. I was delighted to go back as she is very attractive!!

So, the upshot of it is, I have Liability including bodily injury and property damage (for others $300,000.00 per accident), comprehensive and collision with Metropolitan Property and Casualty Ins Co. It is a Collectible Vehicle Policy.

So if I run into someone, I'm covered. It won't pay for me or the tractor, but it does pay for damage to others, property or person.

And it cost less that $75.00.

The agent who handled it for my agent is Condon and Skelly in Maple Shade NJ. I'd have your agent contact them to see if you can get signed up if you are interested.

So there is something out there and perhaps more. There is an antique car show here in The Villages, FL every month. I'll have to ask some of the car owners what coverage they might have.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I'm NOT surprised you were able to get a company to underwrite it and if something bad happened Im sure you would be glad then. If your negligence is the proximate cause of injury to a person to whom you owed a duty of care HEY you can be found legally liable so yayyyyyy for insurance as a means to spread the risk.

When I drive in tractor parades and those kids are running out to get candy I always worry how long before one gets hurt, not a pleasant thought..

Glad it worked out

Merry Christmas

Some agents are too lazy to find coverage for things that mite seem unusual for them but in the end theres always a company that will rite a policy.

liability is one thing, what about if the building you store your tractors in burns? would that be covered under your homeowners as possesions?

It depends on what the policy actually says, of course, but generally speaking a tractor, like any other personal propery, is often covered against loss by ones homeowners policy unless theres some sort of ag equipment exemption which I wouldnt expect. The one thing I recall about insurance law is ITS WHAT THE POLICY SAYS THAT MATTERS, ITS PRETTY MUCH STRICT CONTRACT LAW PERIOD

My State Farm agent Insures my tractors, same as for an antique car, $40.00 each for 6 Mo. full coverage, have to establish a value, I have $4000 on each tractor. Farmall H & Massey Super 101. thats all i show now. like Gene Bender says it took a good agent to find correct policy. they all have them they just have to look for them.

From what my agent told me that unless you have a farm policy your homeowners won't cover it unless you use it on the property i.e. maybe a cub farmall that you mow your lawn with. If you look in the read power mag. and the Green mag. they have a few insurance companies offering cheap insurance for the antique tractors. It has different coverages so you'll have to talk to them to see if it fits your situation. Oh buy the way I was going to a show in Pa this past spring and while backing up the tractor the seat came off and the tractor ran over my chest. Thank God someone else wasn't on it as it wasn't insured and being the seat came off it would have fell back on me. I was insured thru work and the hospital bill ran close to 100,000 dollars. Having insurance is a good idea. Hope this helps.

I pay extra on my Farm Policy for my tractors. I think its about 100 bucks extra a year for three tractors valued from 3,000 to 20,000. I also carry a extra umbrella liabilty policy. I also pay a extra 35 bucks a year for coverage on my hayrides in the fall in conjuction with my pumpkin stand. Sometimes I feel like I'm Ins. poor but it helps me sleep at night. I have Farm Bureau Ins.

We had to review our antique tractor ins. recently . Had been with the co. for yrs . Needed to "up" the value on several tractors . I was told that no matter what we had them covered for , they would pay only what the adjuster thought they were worth. Was imformed that no antique tractor was worth $25,000. We had been insuring what a replacment would cost. My agent said it did not work that way. They pay on what they say it is worth. We dropped that Co. rite then.
Hagerety Ins. from Traverse City . Mich had just the policy that we needed with more and better coverage for less money. Old and antique stuff is there speciality. Good luck.

I have Farm Bureau. They wanted to know the value of my tractors as an collector tractor, They also said that some say the tractor is worth a lot more then it actually is but they pay what its worth as a collector tractor. My Brother in law lost 17 tractors, one was mine, they had the JD dealer and IHC dealer give a value on them and he got paid for what they were worth,We were both happy with the outcome, outside of losing some nice tractors.
