Iam looking at a 650 IH it smokes and has a miss to it (diesel side)...What is the best way to do a compression check..and how many pounds should it have...Thanks in advance...

warm it up and pull the spark plugs, have it on gas side so small valves are open and you can check it this way. not sure what pres. should be but i would guess between 100-125. biggest thing is as long as they dont vary more than 10 percent. to check the small gas valves , start it up and remove spark plugs one at a time or all. just putting your thumb over plug hole , should not feel any compression leakage.if you do you have valve problem and this could be 1 cause of miss. stand to side remov ing plugs as if there is pres. on it you dont want to be shot with it. to check on diesel side you need higher guage rating like 1000 psi. compression press. should be over 400psi, in that neighbourhood. have to go through injectors i believe.

it's listed on Weber's tractor works as, Compression Pressure (at cranking speed)(psi)
503-577*
