Im trying to figure out what size my rod bearings are in my little A. The crank bearings are still STD, i can see that very cleary stamped in the bearing, But my rod bearings have these numbers...

9 70 H24
FMIH-002us
356306-R1

Does the 002 mean that they are a 2thow undersize?
Maybe one of you fellas would know the size of these bearings. Once again thank you very much guys.

You probably should have that crankshaft measured for wear. If it is worn they may need to grind the journals. Your local auto machine shop can determine what it needs and can supply the correct bearings. Hal

I am in agreement. Have the crank miked and choose your bearings from there. I would also do the same for the mains. You may or may not need them but I have found that when I go through an engine I go completely through it. Even if you have to go back with the std bearings, I would have them line bored, but then again I am very An--l Retentive about things I can't easily get to like the inside of my engines. Trying to second guess this is your first step to a FUBAR situation. lol Good Luck. LarryT

I WOULD BET IT IS STD.THE 002US MAKES YOU THINK IT IS .002" UNDERSIZED BUT WITH NO DECIMAL POINT AND BEING LISTED WITH THE IH PART #356306-R1,AND THE 9 70 USUALLY MEANS PRODUCTION DATE 9TH MONTH OF 1970.TAKE TO A MACHINE SHOP AND HAVE THEM VERIFY SIZE.GRIND IF NEEDED.IN MY OPINION ALIGN BORING IS NOT NEEDED UNLESS YOU HAVE SPUN A MAIN.
GOOD LUCK,

When I did this Farmall A back in 1975. The engine was a basket case and I measured the crankshaft and it was worn .002" . When I dropped it off at the auto machine shop I told them if it needed to ground undersize to do all the journals. They called me at work and said the shaft was worn .002" and only needed to be polished and they could get the bearings. With new sleeves and bearings it ran fine. Hal
