460 fasthitch on a 400?

Is there anyway short of a torch and welder to mount a 460 fasthitch on a 400? Some sort of adaptor either IH or aftermarket?

The only things that need changing are side plates and belly bracket. In other words, only those parts that attach to the tractor frame.

I would never waste my time making stuff that was widely available and cheap.

There have been several sets of those brackets offered for sale by eBay vendor "marty2347" from Bad Axe, MI in the past several months. Those parts may not have sold. eMail him. I'll bet you won't spend more than $50.

Just be very careful when dealing with marty2347. Do a search in the buyer seller feedback. I have not had great luck dealing with him myself.

The 460 hitch would be about the same but you would need 400/450/or 560 brackets to make it fit as 400 is larger and wider than a 460. 300/350/460 are same size and 400/450/560 are the same size.

Chester,

I don't like the guy either. His photos are terrible and his descriptions non-existent. Moreover, the item titles are either vague or wrong. And he doesn't answer emails.

On top of that, he will ship defective parts without warning. I have had to repair some of his crap.

What really bugs me the most is I have a feeling if an item doesn't sell (probably higher than 50% of his listings), it goes into the dumpster as scrap.

So why do I do business with him? Well, he has what I need and it is always cheaper than anyone else. He gets few bids and that is probably a reflection of his business style. He could gross alot more with an attitude adjustment.

Harold,

The 300-400 hitch is totally different from the 350-450-460-560 hitch. Can't think of any parts (including the cylinder) that will interchange.

However, there are hitch parts from the 04-06 series that can be made to work on a 350-450-460-560.

Is there a reason you're not just going with the correct hitch for a 400?

Is it because you already have the one for a 460?
Or can get one for a 460 for very little $$$?

I'm just curious because I know that complete units usually sell for around $500 and you could just get the correct one.

I would also agree with all the previous post about acquiring the correct side and belly hardware. Again, my 2 cents worth.

I have looked in parts catalog & very little interchangeable from 460 to 560, couldnt remember for sure but it confirmed my fear that slightly smaller rear frame casting between the 2, bolts smaller, just enough different to be far from a bolt-on. H/300/460 all evolved together in casting sizes, same for M/400/560.
