Super C problems

I wrote about my super c a little while ago not running. It was running and idled good but when I let out the clutch it would bog down and run rough. Or if I used the hydraulics it would bog down. It first started after the tractor got warm it would start bogging down
I cleaned the gas bowl and screen. I cleaned the screen in the carb they were all ok. I put it all together and it won’t start.
I thought it might be the carb so I took it off and had it rebuilt. I put it back on and it still won’t start. I gave it a shot of starter fluid and still no pop. So I am now thinking that it is electrical, to be exact I am thinking it is the coil. SO I put a tester on the back of the coil. I got power to the pin on the motor side but nothing on the pin close to me. If the key is on should both of these have power? Also I wanted to look into the points and I can’t get the distributor rotor off the shaft. I have tried everything but breaking it off. It is stuck. Is there a trick to getting it off? Thanks Ron

New rotors are not very costly; break the old one off if you need to.
Check for spark using the secondary (big) wire from the coil to the distributor cap; unplug from the center of the cap & test to the engine block.
Does the rotor turn when cranking? The gear teeth have been known to rust away.

you should have power on both sides of the coil. those rotors do tend to stick a little once in a while just put a small pry bar or large screwdriver under it and apply steady presure while pulling on it and it should pop free, also check for carbon tracks inside the cap, they will look like a thin black line.

Handyman info on the voltage is correct only if the tractor stopped with the points open (very unlikely, they almost always stop with them closed as the last cylinder on compression pushes the engine back to about 1/2 stroke. If you test the coil vor voltage with the points closed, it will only have voltage on the switch side, the wire to the points will be the same as ground (because it is grounded through the points. To test it one must open the points and put a slip of plastic or cardboard between them. Then voltage will be at both terminals of the coil.

Point setting is .020" when the distributor cam is directly on one of the 4 lobes. THe tractor must be turned by hand (fan or hand crank, or pushing in high gear) to get it to that position. Good luck. Jim
