Hello. I was looking at the starter on my Farmall A and noticed that it just had a stud sticking up were the cable from the battery goes, but It does not have a contact switch on it. What do I have here? HELP

You have a starter that the stud was installed instead of the button. It still can have the button installed just need to find a shop that can do it.

Well, you certainly have no reason to *panic*. (HELP in all caps?)

H's and M's have the stud, because the starter switch is mounted on the steering post on those tractors.

IH switched from the stud to the contact and back again, trying to find a reliable way to operate the starter. Once they figured out solenoids, the problem (mostly) went away.

Starter from H and M had stud and will bolt up on A and work fine. If you do not care about being original you can use starter switch like H and M or "solenoid switch".
