McCormick Super W6

Considering a Super W6 but am told it's brakes don't work and they are hard to fix. Need some info before I go look at it.

What type of brakes does it use, what should I look for and how hard are they to fix?

Most likely it has the disc brakes just the same as on a Super M. All of the parts are available brand new and readily available.

Super W-6 has the same DISK brakes as a Super M.

Six bolts is all it takes to remove each brake. The drum, disks, and actuator comes off together. Then they slip apart.

They are easy to fix, if all you need are new disks. $50 and you're back in business.

Of course, if the reason the brakes don't work is because they're bathed in oil from failed bull pinion seals, that's a more difficult repair.

Do not forget to do the nessary machining on the acctuator and the drum,it will not work right if you do not do this.dont ask me how I know.(a Super M)!

I had to work on the brakes on mine and is was a whole lot easier to take the tires off, but mine are dry, if your tires are loaded I would work around them

Hey all newby here I have a SMTA that I need to fix the brakes on, alooooooong time ago I read an artical in red powe magazine about making these poor brakes better by machining out some additional plates and welding (Ithink) to the two actuator plates inside the drum assy to increse the brake pack thickness?????? I cant find the artical anymore, anyne here ever here of this or have any ideas?????
Thanks in advance.
