Why the overpricing, It's not goint to sell anyway!!!

I follow the daily ads contsantly, being a small time collector. I see so much junk overpriced, I could puke!! Some of these items need to go go a scrap yard, but they are listed here . The for sale would be half the pages if thr junk was put into a catagory it should be in. JUNK!!!

Pleae post links or descriptions to which ads you are referring to.....and you are right. I have seen some junk on here before.

Ah but there is a saying one mans junk is another mans treasure. Almost any tractor can in fact be worth more then just scrap price since a good many parts are no longer made or it made they are not up to the standards that they where when made new. To me there is and never will be a such thing as a scrap/junk tractor.

agree, just no clue to what they have or what its worth. thats right it dont sell anyhow.

I agree, but that doesn't make a siezed up, rust bucket, 4 bad tires run of the mill H worth $1500. They are wasting my time by making me click on it...good thing I have fast internet.

Not necessarily junk either...although rule of thumb around here is that most junkers are worth about $400-$500 as parts tractors just to keep them from the scrap man, but some nice stuff being sold for wayyyyyy to much money: that $15,000 Jubilee a while back! What makes it even better is when they tell you how "rare" it is like that "Rare Red Farmall Super C" for $5000 was here a cpl times. Funny how when a truly rare tractor pops up, the seller never needs to tell everyone that! lol

unfortunatly, we live in a free country where folks can freely sell junk. Good thing you are not in charge. The price is always what 2 persons agree upon. If you dont like the price, change it-or stay in the closet.

I guess i look at things differently. I always get a kick out of looking through the photo ads every morning while i drink my coffee. some guys know how to price old tractors and some guys don't have a bloody clue! you're never gonna change that.

Unfortunately???????????????????? What is your crazy???? If you do not like it here leave. Ya I know you did not mean it like your post sounds but hey I'm ex=military and my son is in now I have and he is doing his duty to keep it like it is and hope it will stay a fee county for ever. HAHAHAHA!!!

"EX-military"??? former military I thought?? :) I thought "once a marine always a marine" applied to military in general?? ;) Thank you for your service and sacrifice to our country!

Sold all my antique engines this past year. Listed them at a very low price. The engines were gone within 5 hours of posting the add. The only drawback to listing at low prices is answering the constant phone calls. It was over and done in an afternoon and that's what I wanted.

The same can be said for many used car, and tractor dealers. But then asking price and selling price is sometimes far from being the same. Many times I knowingly ask more than what I know something is worth, hoping to get offers, but I do try to keep the asking price in the 'high ballpark'. My thinking is I can always go down, but never up once you price it, and if it does not sell, lower the price, and try again. And when something sells within hours, I always wonder if I priced too low. Free enterprise at work, better than having the govt regulating the asking price for everything.

You are right about a lot of tractors being overpriced but on the other hand the concenus on this forum seems to be that you should be able to buy non running tractors for a lot less than they would scrap out for.

You will be surprised at what some people will pay.
I have seen 600.00 to 800.00 tractors sell for 1200.00 to 1400.00.
I don"t understand how but they did.

Thats what i think as well Ive seen people at the Portland In show ..the same ppl with the same junk every year tryin to sell they must enjoy hauling the junk then sellin it to ppl. that are really needin it .I was lookin for P.T.O.shield for my H guy had a few with with other stuff wanted 45 bucks went on down the trail found the same thing down the road for 10. yea I know that you gotta shop around before you buy but why do ppl. just want to stick it to ya ?

I blame on the collectors. "If he can get 5000 for that shiny looking tractor, I can get at least 1500 for this pile of junk!" Seen this happen this summer, of course the shiny one was a John Deere.

i think the overpricing is caused by numerous things, first as mentioned there is always somebody that has a old junker grandpa shoved in the fencerow 40 years ago, he sees a similar tractor with a 10,000 dollar restoration on it sell for 6 grand at auction, so he figures the old rusted out and locked up junker should be worth 1/3 that money after all all it needs is paint right? then theres the poor guy who likes old tractors married to a wife who either hates em or just doesnt understand what hubby sees in spending good money on that old rusty tractor that dad wore out, and she wants it gone, so hubby, being smart, lists the tractor in the adds for 5 times what its worth, knowing full well it will not sell, but, he is trying to sell so the wife quiets down, and he gets to keep his dads old tractor lol

I think some of their thinking comes out of the foolish TV shows like Pickers = Everything old is worth a lot of $$$

Nope, just applies to the Marine Corps. 8) No such thing as an ex-Marine.

As far as overpriced stuff, maybe the wife is after the guy to get rid of his junk. So he advertises it at a high price and it doesn't sell. "See Honey, I tried to sell it and nobody bought it."

Ex or former pretty much the same difference. But if the person had been an officer he might be able to be recalled but enlisted as long as he did a full 6 in some way shape or form can not be unless something odd happened. I did 6 1974-1980

I'm a believer in the fact that the owner can price however he chooses. Same goes for the "I'm going to restore that someday" type of person. At the end of the day, we all have choices....a seller can choose his price, a buyer can choose if he is going to pay it or not. It's the beauty of a free market system.

Seller can ask what he want and buyer will pay what he wants. That the free market. I"m not sure what junkers everyone is talking about. But a couple of years ago I bidded 750.oo on a junk A John Deere. The tractor went for 975.00. Yes a junk tractor with a series 3 power block. So sometimes you need to know all the facts. Yes I"m sure some things are really high priced but sometimes there is a reason. Just my two sense worth.
