Hydrualic oil for cub

My '48 cubs manual calls for 10# motor oil for the hydraulics. I'm wondering how much different Hy-tran oil is from the 10# oil. And also will they mix ok. Thanks in advance

We have always used the standard Tractor Hydraulic Fluid in our Cub that you buy in the 5 gallon bucket. Maybe someone on here can elaborate if it is ok to use.

Unless there's some reaction between additives in the #10 engine oil and the hytran, there's no reason they won't mix. Both are petroleum oil based.

If you drain the reservoir and refill with fresh hytran, all you'll have left is about 2 cups of old oil in the lines running to the pump. Spit in the ocean, and certainly not worth trying to get out..

In that system it doesn't make much difference, the SAE 10 recommendation was replaced by the supposedly better Touch Control Fluid, it was replaced by Hytran. Both are about SAE 10.
