39 M regulator and wiring

Where should the voltage regulator on a 39 M be located? Does anyone know of a basic wiring diagram for a 39 M with magneto?

The 39 M didn't come with a voltage regulator. Instead they had a cutout relay mounted on top of the generator. Charging was controlled by a switch on the dash. High charge full fielded or grounded the field circuit. Low charge ran the field circuit through a resistor in the switch on the dash.

Okay. The M that I bought has a regulator mounted on the side rail in a crude fashion. I was thinking of putting back to original or mounting it on the bottom of the steering post. I need a diagram to sort things out.

You can get a saddle mount regulator that sits on top of the generator, just the same as the original cut-out relay. Otherwise, get a flat mount regulator and mount in the rear fuel tank support, right in front of your feet.

On a 39, it should be a cutout, but it should mount on top of the genny, not the gas tank support, if youre going for originality, otherwise, anywhere with a good ground will work.
