will a 236 diesel out of a 460 bolt into a 706 with the german engine. was told it would bolt in a 706 with the 282 diesel but didnt know about the german one.

Would it bolt in ? No, but it would fit, be a formidable task, side rails, radiator outlet/inlet, rear adapter plate, flywheel, air filter connections, shut-off/throttle, all different. 460 had lower top RPM, so injector pump not correct in that respect. Find a 560/660 or 403/503/715 diesel glow plug start, would be closer.

Get a D 310 out of a 715 combine and you'll be a lot happier.

Putting a D236 into a 706 will give something with less power than the 460 since the 706 is quite a bit heavier. The shorter stroke of the D236 compared to the D282 will really leave you with a underpowered tractor.

You would have maybe a 50 hp 706 with a 236. I would put a german 358 into that 706. A 358 would bolt right in if your 706 has the 310 motor. Everything the same on a 310 and 358. They used 358;s in 826, 886 and 3688. Then you would have a 90 hp 706. IMO I think you would be disappointated with a 236 in a 706.

Not quite everything is the same between the 310 and 358 engines. The 358 has a taller block than the 310. I do not know if that would make a difference but keep in mind that the 706 is a couple inches lower that the 806 which is the same height as the 826. There may be some clearance problems with the larger engine.

If it was an early 706 with the D282 engine, the D236 would bolt right in.

460 diesels are pretty rare from what I can tell. I think you'd do darn well selling the engine. Use the money for rebuilding the D310 in your 706, or finding another German diesel out of a combine or something.

You'll spend just as much money buying the parts to install the D236 in the 706.
