H paint code

I am getting ready to paint a 1944 H.Does anyone have a paint code? Was all IH red the same? or did the shade of red change slightly over the years? I am sure this topic has came up many times over the years, but I could find nothing in the archives.

The color did change slightly over the years, but at some point IH corporate made the decision to paint all tractors IH 2150 red rouge. You can get that paint at your local Case-IH dealer. The 2150 just as it is will result in a much higher gloss than what your tractor had from the factory, and if you want to go one step further with the gloss, your dealer has hardener that can be added to the paint. I've seen Farmalls painted with PPG and similar brands, and they are always either too pink or too orange.

IH 50, crosses to PPG 70019, DuPont 7410. It is not available premixed. Should not have the orange tint of 2150 which appeared on the 460, 560, etc in 1961. But, I have never used IH 50.

What do you guys think of the Valspar, restoration paint from TSC? I have used this in spray cans for small parts and it covers pretty well.

I buy that same paint from Tisco in case lots. It IS very good paint, and I use it quite often for smaller parts, but in my opinion, it is NOT quite the correct color. For what it's worth, the 2150 in rattle cans flows out better and gives better results for only slightly more money.

I guess what I am saying is the Valspar is fine for a working tractor, but a show/parade tractor probably deserves the IH 2150.

Thank you guys for the advice.I have put a lot of time and money in restoring this tractor, and I want it to look as good as possible. It is too late to skimp now.Now I am wondering what to paint the rims with????

[b:cdcdcacd48]I use IH#50. I have it mixed as single stage urethane. Makes for a nice job when done.[/b:cdcdcacd48]

[b:cdcdcacd48]If you use good paint you will be happy with the results. If you use air dry enamel like Valspar or Case IH 2150 results can vary.
Here is my M painted with #50.[/b:cdcdcacd48]

[b:cdcdcacd48]Don't get me wrong, I have used Case IH #2150 and it worked ok. I just isn't the same quality as single stage urethane. What ever you do, don't paint your tractor with rattle cans. If you have lots of time and $$$$$ tied up in your project don't spoil it with a cheap paint job.
Here is my SW6 painted with CIH 2150.[/b:cdcdcacd48]

[b:04282fd9fd]Sorry for not answering your question about the rims. I usually use CIH silver argent for the wheels, I also add hardner to it and then clear them with single stage urethane clear while they are still tacky.

I would not want to paint an entire using rattle cans from TSC, but the rattle cans from Case-IH are an entirely different story. Those cans even have an adjustable spray nozzle so you can hold the can upright and still get the paint to go where you want it.

[b:32c75c0463]Why not use a brush and a roller??
Rattle cans, regardless of the supplier are mostly solvents, not paint.
Big waste of time and $$$$$ IMHO.

You don't use reducer when you paint with a gun? Isn't the reducer a solvent? Even if you use paint from a quart can that claims to not need reducer, the reducer is still there.

I painted my '40 H with rattle cans and I'll compare it to any tractor I've ever seen at a show.
