Called a guy on a '54 super h. he said it ran earlier this summer, but it knocked. so he took it apart and it has a bent rod and a worn lobe on camshaft? tin work isn't much and tires are worn. narrow front seat box is junk. What would it take to fix the motor or is it even worth it?? Is it worth $750???

How are the tires on it? I paid 500 for a regular H with a stuck engine, and shot tires. If the rear tires are in great shape it may not be a horrible deal, at least for around here anyways.

Pardon my tiredness, I didn't even see that you mentioned the tires in your post. I suspose with that much needed engine work and needing tires, the price IMO is a bit high. But these old tractors are only worth what you're willing to pay for one. I've bought perfect running H's for 800, and I've sold perfect running H's for 2,000 just all depends.

If your thinking of restoring it for resale and hoping to profit it won't be a good investment. If you don't assign alot of value on your time you might make some money parting it out. If you simply want one then go for it. I did a complete engine rebuild done "right" and spent $2500 on parts labor and machine work. I have spent another +-2500.00 on wires tires paint etc. And I'm not done yet. I pd $650 for the tractor in tough shape but running. I now have roughly $5-6000 and hundreds of hours invested in a $25-3500 tractor. However for me it was never intended to be a for $ profit project. I truly enjoy the time spent and using the tractor.

Just got an H for $400. Motor stuck, shot tires, no swinging drawbar, but had belt pulley, and complete shutters and control rod (siezed, but can be made to work). I guess you could call it a "rescue "tractor.

54 is a stage 2 SH. Probably worth $4000 restored, but you will have more than that in it. Sounds pretty junky to me. If you just want it to run, look somewhere else.

With the condition you state it's worth scrap value. According to tractor data it's 3875 lbs.

For what you will spend fixing it you can buy a decent one. So if it's to use it isn't worth it. If on the other hand you are looking for a project and A. have the cash to dump in it or B. plan on taking your time and doing one thing at a time to spread out the cash outlay you can be OK on it.

If it's for a work tractor what are you going to do with it? If for working in the woods or small areas (garden plot) a utility style tractor will work much better. I have both a M and a Ford 8N for work. I run the M maybe 20 hours a year. The 8N runs about 20 hours a month. Thinking about replacing the M with a bit higher HP utility style tractor. Been looking at 350s and 3000-4000 Fords. But all of my equipment is for farming. Use a 1206 for the heavy stuff and a TBL for moving bales and other loader type work.
