I am restoring my dad's 1950 Farmall Cub, I have a question concerning the electrical system, namely the cutout relay, I purchased a new replacement, hooked it up the generator is charging, I went to crank the tractor the next day and the battery was dead, after putting a battery charger on it and charging it to a full charge I was able to crank the tractor, the generator was charging, I noticed the ammeter showed a negative charge when I turned off the tractor, can you tell me what I need to do to fix the problem of the battery going dead after sitting up a while.

Assuming there's no other electrical load (lights left on, etc) your new cutout is defective.

Try disconnecting the wire from the cutout's BAT terminal. If the ammeter returns to 0, the new cutout is the problem.
