[b:d193f4f24c]I havent posted on here much and im a newbie to the tractor resto scene. anyways....Ill be putting new tires on my 1950 M next year after I finish restoring it. I want something bigger than the 13.6's, Ill more than likely be getting new rims anyway, Im keeping the 6x16's up front. A friend of my parents that i've gotten parts from has 15.5's on his M but I havent seen it.

Just wondering what ppl on here are running and if you can post some pics up of your tractor with the tires on.

Thanks in Advance... ~Robby[/b:d193f4f24c]

[b:92858276b6]heres a pic of my M, its not the prettiest but it aint bad considering it set outside uncovered for the past 15 years (thanks dad). Ive been working on it for the past couple months here n there. Changed the oil, flushed the cooling system, got it running, converted it over to 12 volt, put all new ignition parts on it, and started to spot-primer some of it. Years ago (before I was born, im 23) my grandfather rebuilt the engine and put an overbore kit in it, it runs like a dream. It looks a little different now since I got a muffler for it and easy-ride seat.[/b:92858276b6]

There are several answers, We need to know what you are going to do with it. Pulling, Going in parades,
Working fields, or what. The stock M engine will work well with one size wider. But way over sized will be unhandy in many situations, and less powerful in each gear. Part of this is due to higher gear ratio (faster speed) and part to reduced efficiency in average conditions. If flotation is needed in wet swampy situations, the issue will be those 6.00 fronts. [b:88442baec1]mostly field work, hauling wood/logs and maybe the occasional stump pulling, if my 06 F250 cant do it first lol. Up here we've got mostly red clay and our land has its fair share of low/wet spots. Sorry for the newbie question but why would the 6.00 fronts be as issue? handling?[/b:88442baec1]

12-38(13.6-38) are the way most came from the factory, those are completely adequate for today.

[b:837e29fd2d]I agree 100%, I have nothing against the 13.6's,and may end up putting 13.6's on it again but I'd just like to put a lil bigger on it, personal preferance I guess?[/b:837e29fd2d]

This is my MTA with 15.5's and 7.50's. I really like the 15.5's. They are darn near the same diamater as the 13.6's, just a bit wider. This tractor has 13" rims if memory serves.
I wish I'd gone with 6.50 or 7.00's instead on the front, but they do the job.

[b:cc415300c8]excellent! thank you very much for posting your pictures. So youre running the 15.5's on the original sized rims? any problems with that?[/b:cc415300c8]

I have 38x13.6 on my M, and wish I could afford to put something bigger on it. I think my size looks good on the H tractors, but M's look a little better with a bigger tire, that's just me though. If my tires were not damn near brand new when I bought the tractor, I would've went with a bigger size.

Forgot to mention in this post above, I'm 22. Glad to see another younger guy with a Farmall!

Pic is taken with the 16.9's still on the MTA(far right) and before I stretched out the wide front. M is in the middle with 13.6's.

I 'think' these rims are a bit oversized. They certainly look bigger than the rims on my regular M. And have a different style clamp system. Not sure of the correct name. I'll see if I can put a tape measure on them tomorrow.

The MTA had 16.9's on it when I bought it. They fit the rims fine, but looked goofy on the tractor.

I also have 15.5 on a SMTA. The rims are new and 14" wide. You will probably have to weld the block keys on the rim to prevent rotation and resulting stem shear.

Don't expect to pull much more than 5" stumps. Beware of slippery stumps where the bark and chain slide off the end at high velocity. This would include willows and walnut varieties such as black and butternut. I am sure there are others as well. Elm comes to mind.

I use the implement below to cut roots on larger trees. It is fitted to a 660 with Fast Hitch.

[b:e2956024b3]I think the wider tires make the tractor look a lot tougher. You guys have some nice Farmall's! Thanks everybody for posting pictures![/b:e2956024b3]

We have 15.5x38s on our Super M...they look just right. But we are gonna switch 'em over to our JD 70 and put the 14.9x38s on the SM to try to slow the 70 down a tad...real fast first gear.

[b:da7aaa989d]my dad bought the M long before I was born, I grew up around and on it and learned how to drive on it. I dug up some old pics the other night from when I was little, me and dad on it workin the fields and some of me and my grandfather on his M, H, and 400.[/b:da7aaa989d]

[b:cd9f9a080e]do you have any pics of the 14.9's?[/b:cd9f9a080e]

Maybe I'm wrong here Pete, but I don't think you'll gain anything height wise going from 15.5's to 14.9's. The brand new 15.5's on my MTA are only about a half inch taller than the slightly warn 13.6's on my regular M.

Better mark me down as another young one! I'm 21 and currently have 6 old farmall tractors (H, SH, M, SM, MD, MV) and a No 8. 3 bottom plow. MV is already restored and the others are all in different stages of being restored. Sold the 300 and 400 that were restored.

Personally, to me, anything larger than 14.9 x 38 looks too big on a M. Everybody to there own taste.

I have had 15.5, 14.9, 16.9 and 18.4s on my tractor from looks perspective the 14.9s look great, I like the 16.9s as well, the 15.5 are a little short. My 2 cents.

Thanks Mike
