Re: Read this Al Farmall Boy

FWIW, my post above doesn't even appear on Modern.

Now you know why it appears that you are not getting many responses to your posts when reading the Modern View.

Most of the action on the Farmall Board is written in Classic View. Why not go mainstream ?

Ya, I know. Why am I writing this in Classic ? You won't be able to read it. I am actually writing it for Chris's benefit.

Thanks alot Wardner, now I know to switch back to Classic View to check my posts. Don't ya just love these things they call computers and all of their "bugs"!! haha. I appreciate the heads up. :)

I don't know how anyone can stand to read this board in "Classic View" good lord it gives me a headache. The "Modern View" is so simple and easy to follow.

Wardner,

If this is your post, it DOES appear in modern view:

"Judging from the title of this thread, you seem to be aware that you are the problem with "Re:" topic titles.

You are not going to enter into a stage of forum enlightenment until you find the "New Topic" button on the Modern View and use it for starting a new thread. In the unlikely event that you are using the Classic View, use the "Post a Message" link. It's not that difficult. Most everyone else understands the protocol.

In other words, don't take any old follow-up post, change the subject line, write your message, and submit it.

Chris (site manager) thinks this is the problem. Let's see if he is right. Goto to the "Site Comments" forum for more info.

Frankly, he may be only partially right. I know for a fact that one can change the Classic View subject without incident. Not sure on the Modern View and that is why I think you use the Modern View. Maybe you should just go Classic."

Why people use classic view? Most people learned to use the site that way, and no offense intended, but they're old and stubborn and proud of it. They don't like change.

I really appreciate the efforts to provide both, as I prefer the modern view. It's a technical marvel how both versions maintain almost identical content despite completely different methods of display.

The problem could easily be solved by just eliminating the classic side. The modern view is easy enough to use. If I can figure it out, I think anyone can do it.

Does not get much simpler than classic, or modern, for that matter. I use modern mainly to correct my mistakes. Both are ok. I like classic because I can immediately see the titles of all posts and can tell at a glance if anything has been added. I don't have to go to the bottom of the page to see who posted what, as in the modern view and the RPM forum, which is ok also. I may be old but I am not stubborn, been using computers since 1983, before windows, shortly after DOS was invented. And, I am about as far from a computer expert as you can get.

I was slow to switch to modern; it allows me to see times of posts and if anyone has added since I peeked last. I still like to back to classic as I can see all poster listed and I have my old favorites. They both work and yup, it is somethin' that there is STILL both and for FREE!. Let's all play nice now and enjoy your day folks...and ON WISCONSIN!!

The computer isnt the problem, its you. You need to stop trying to reply to an "old" post in modern! Just because it may only be on page 3 or 4 on modern, its probably already off of the 16 pages on classic! By posting to you old post on modern, your making a mess in classic. ALOT of us still use classic, and it throws some of the newer topics back a page an we miss them. If you have a question pertaining to your older post, DO NOT use Re: or hit Reply. Just simply start a NEW thread, and put in the title revisited or some thing like that. Example: Original Engine Farmall A Revisited, or another Question or something to that effect, instead of replying to your original thread.

This old set in his ways codger has tried modern view and find it about impossible to figure out who is replying to what. Most forums with format like modern view wind up with posters quoting posts they are replying to and short post can take up whole screen.

The only reason the replies get all dis-jointed in modern view is because they are simultaneously posting in the classic view, and trying to be in order in both, and it just ain't gonna happen. Every other discussion forum I visit uses the modern format, and the replies are all in order, and it is very easy to immediately determine who replied to what. This forum could be that way also if they would get rid of the classic view.

(quoted from post at 00:59:18 11/30/10) Even them there telly-fones is a' somewhat confusin' to us country boys!!!
HAW-HAW!

Yea, I think thats what actually caused the whole problem. Being in the shop troubleshooting and working on the tractor, I'd check and reply to the YT Forum posts using my "hi-tech" telly-fone. When doing that, you really don't have as much control over the website and how you post your message. Looks like I need to stop doing that, and just come inside to do it on the computer. Thing is that my other mechanics (grandfather & uncle) don't have the patience to find out the real solution, and will just fix it the best they can (WHICH DRIVES ME NUTS!!!). I've never had any other trouble with posting as far as Modern vs. Classic; so thats probably what it was. Although, they do need to pick one method and get rid of the other (Classic). It really makes me feel bad when I read posts by others that have the tone of voice where you've annoyed them. Hopefully it shouldn't happen again.
